The Joint Research Unit on Innovation and Knowledge Transfer is a collaborative initiative between the University of Córdoba and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), through its Institute for Advanced Social Studies.
It brings together a multidisciplinary team of researchers working on the institutional dynamics of knowledge production, with a particular focus on the interactions between research and development (R&D), knowledge transfer, and innovation, as well as their impact on society. Its mission combines fundamental research with applied studies, specialized training, and technical support for institutions, businesses, and public administrations.
The Unit is also recognized as an Agent of the Andalusian Regional Knowledge System through Research Group SEJ-681, “Social and Economic Innovation and Knowledge Transfer,” registered at the University of Córdoba.
Our Research Lines
Governance and Organization of Knowledge Transfer and Innovation
This research area examines the institutional and organizational configuration of science and innovation systems, with a focus on institutional performance and its impact on the wider social and economic environment. It brings together projects that explore the social factors shaping the scientific and technological performance of institutions, with particular attention to innovative organizational models, merit-based practices, and research integrity.
Innovation Ecosystems
This research area focuses on the factors shaping relationships between science and industry, as well as between science and society. Particular attention is given to two key domains: the institutional dynamics of knowledge transfer and their implications for sectoral and regional innovation systems.
Information Science and the Socioeconomic Impact of Research
This line of research analyzes emerging scientific information systems, with particular emphasis on new data sources and alternative metrics for tracing publication dynamics, assessing knowledge transfer and research impact, and examining issues related to research integrity.
Activities and Resources
The Unit carries out a wide range of activities, including:
Research projects and specialized consultancy services
Scientific publications, technical reports, and outreach activities
Participation in doctoral programs and researcher training
Seminars, conferences, and knowledge transfer events
The Unit employs a broad range of research methods and analytical tools, including bibliometric analysis, quantitative and qualitative surveys, advanced statistical analysis, qualitative comparative methodologies, and large-scale data analysis.
Impact and Institutional Recognition
Since its creation in 2018, the Unit has generated a sustained positive impact through:
- The consolidation of an interdisciplinary team with critical mass and shared infrastructure
- The development of a portfolio of competitive and commissioned projects
- Joint scientific output and the dissemination of research results
- Knowledge transfer to the local and regional environment
- The training of early-career researchers and collaboration in doctoral programmes in Sociology, Political Science, Anthropology, Management, Legal Studies, and Information Science
In addition, the Joint Research Unit has been institutionally recognized as an in-house entity of the University of Córdoba for the implementation of projects, applied research, and doctoral training.
